Standard Hy-Ram® hydraulic hammers are equipped with a foam type dust ring, which is fitted in the bottom of the hammer's box bracket. The dust ring fits tightly around the demolition tool to limit the amount of debris entering the tool bushing area. Certain severe applications may dictate the need for a more sophisticated dust deterrent, such as the Allied Guardian DustProtection System™.
The Allied Guardian DustProtection System™ is designed to protect the tool, tool bushings, retainer bars, and piston from wear due to dust being ingested through the tool holder (see illustration below). The Allied Guardian DustProtection System™ provides superior sealing by using a two stage seal design. A floating ring tightly fitted to the demolition tool is the first line of defense. The floating ring is positioned inside a groove in the guide ring, and is free to follow the tool as the Hy-Ram® moves inside the box. Larger pieces of debris like stone chips will be deflected by the floating ring. The second line of defense is the tool wiper. The tool wiper prevents any small particles from entering the tool holder and is connected to the lower bushing by snapping it’s inside diameter into a groove on the outside of the lower bushing protrusion. The lower bushing extends out of the bottom of the tool holder, and then flares out so there is no contact between the tool and bushing in this area. This design eliminates any sharp wear ridges from damaging the softer tool wiper material.
